I Like the VERSATILITY of SRK and Hrithik

SRK with Hrithik Roshan

Shah Rukh Khan has been in the industry for more than 20 years now and he has been giving HITs throughout his career. Most of his Hits is in Romantic genre and So media has tagged him the ‘King of Romance’. This has made many people believe that he is just keep on doing romantic movies which is far from truth. I am covering basically two points i.e. Versatility in choosing the type of movies and Versatility in acting. I am assuming that we know the meaning of versatility so that when I mention about the movies like Ra.One, Ashoka and Paheli you will not have any chance to say that they were Flops.

Versatility in choosing movies
I feel, among the present lot, SRK is the most versatile actor when it comes to choosing movies in different genres. He has done the role of a romantic hero who lures his heroines by his charm to a wicked man who can do anything for revenge of his father’s death. A mentally challenged man to a Superhero. Just look at his filmography and you can see the Diversity. Short film with Arundhati, KHKN, DDLJ, Baazigar, Dil se, PBDHH, Pardes, Hey Raam, Ashoka, Swades, Koyla, Baadshah, MNIK, OSO, CDI, Don, Ra.one.

Good Songs from Flop films

Here is a list of songs which i felt didn’t get the attention because of the poor response of the film or due to bad choreography/picturisation.

Behne De (Raavan) : I liked the concept of this song. Photography is very good. Beera and Ranjha Ranjha were also good. Both Abhishek-Ash are irritating though.

Falak Tak chal ( Tashan) : This is a song which i recommend you see with your eyes closed :D

because Akshay’s buck teeth is irritating and Kareena is in “look at me i am size zero” slutty mode.

Akshay inspired from Tony Jaa

Taking inspiration from spuntik,it was time i also exposed a copy ;)

So check this scene from Akshay Kumar’s 2009 film Kambakth Ishq from 3.30 to 4.00.Also notice the background music from 4.54 onwards .It sounds similar to the Fire dance song from Hrithik Roshan’s Kites.

Then check the Tony Jaa starrer Tom Yum Goong warehouse fight scene, from 1.20 to 1.44.Then check 2.43 and then 3.38.

Good script, bad treatment!

I am naming those films which I thought had good script but failed on directional ground. The list is in no specific order.

HEROES (Samir Karnik)- If thought deeply, the script of the film was really, really interesting! The way the two guys set a trip to film a project on three different families was very innovative. But director ruined the film. First track of Salman and Preity was very good but later two were intolerable especially because they looked way too superficial and even the actors seemed very disinterested.

KITES (Anurag Basu)- Who would have dared to pen a story where the female protagonist don’t know any other language except Spanish! There was enormous passion for love (the climax says it), but Anurag Basu was not quite capable to bring it on celluloid efficiently. Also the treatment was too sober. I expected it to be fast and brisk, but it had a lazy pace.

MURDER 2 (Mohit Suri)- There were enough moments in the film where Suri tried his level best to make the film engaging, but he miserable failed because there are many scenes which are unimaginably dragged. Emraan Hashmi not believing in God was direct rip-off from his own AWAARAAPAN.

Hilarious Scene from Kites

During Kites, Hrithik used to argue that it was a tragic film and hence it didn’t work. However I felt I never realised Hrithik’s comic timing better than in Kites especially from 7:58 to 8:40 in the scene I posted. The moment bullet hits Hrithik, he suddenly becomes more nasal than Himesh Reshammiya. It is amazing that he is just hit by the bullet but he refuses to drop the fake accent. “Drive the car Lindaaaaa,,I am okkkkkk” and i thought he had left MPKDH behind him. While this is going on, we hear the hollywood sensation (Barbara Mori, who looked like a MILF in the film) speaking dialogues like “please don’t go, we need to make babies ,remember?” rofl

There is another scene where Hrithik is cheering up Barbara, he says “You had a dream, I had a dream, now we have a bigger dream”. Then in that kiss scene , “If you dont like my kiss, then give it back to me”. I think even my 7 year old cousin will write a lesser dumb dialogue than that. All this in the name of international crossover cinema.

Makers said Kites is a love story. Well,Kites is not a symbol of love.

The rise and rise of Mayank Shekhar: Or has Sarah Palin found her literary match?

Check out this old article/letter criticizing Mayank Shekhar’s English

To
Mayank Shekhar
National Cultural Editor and Chief Film Reviewer
Hindustan Times
India

Dear Mayank,

In the Wikipedia entry for Peepli Live – one of the most talked of Hindi films of late – I came across an extract from a review of the film by you: “The satire is irresistible; the subtext, compelling. And yet neither shows itself up in any form of self-seriousness. The comic writing is immaculately inspired”.

And I found myself wondering, what exactly is “self-serious”?

Perhaps, what you mean is serious.

Only, as I understand a good satire is something superficially funny but with a serious subtext. If it doesn’t have a serious subtext, then it is just a comedy not a satire. So what exactly do you mean when you say that the satire and subtext are both good, but thankfully not serious?

And what exactly is “immaculately inspired”? Now, I’ve heard of immaculate conception, but immaculate inspiration? I am still trying to figure that one out.

Now, I bear you no malice – after all, you are my Facebook friend, a friend of a friend, and best friend of a best friend, and we did have a hazy, boozy conversation at a literature festival in Mumbai several years ago.
