Only for the Missus

The bash finally wound up at roughly 6.30 am, with Priyanka Chopra one of the last ones to leave.

Returning to the screen more than 30 years after she gave up acting, Neetu Singh Kapoor proved with 2010’s Do Dooni Chaar that she still had the chops, and that she still shared a crackling on-screen chemistry with her husband Rishi Kapoor, and that her son Ranbir owes it all to his genes. Hardly surprising though that Neetu has been turning down several movie offers since DDC, reluctant to get typecast in thankless mummyji roles.

The one she has apparently said yes to is a cameo in Yash Chopra’s next, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif. Well-placed sources say that Neetu will make a single-scene appearance in the as-yet-untitled romantic film. Also ‘hanging around’ in the scene, not doing much else, will be her husband Rishi Kapoor who has reportedly agreed to literally ‘show up’ on set on his Chandni director’s insistence.

Rishi Kapoor who, according to an industry joke, has an ego bigger than his superstar son, isn’t known to make special appearances in films even if only to appease old friends. And while his association with Chopra dates all the way back to Kabhi Kabhi, he’s believed to have told the filmmaker that the main reason he was making an exception for this movie was his wife.

Aao Guess Karein – Coke, sex and similarity

This once A-lister female actress who has been out of work for a couple of years after a failed serious relationship with an illustrious member of Bombay’s financial fraternity, has taken very seriously to drugs. Once a household name for her ferocious independence and vivacious image, she is very quickly and steadily descending into the “forgotten” category.

The story goes that her come-back vehicle,  a cheesy romance film, which she is producing herself,  being shot  in  Europe, with a new model turned actor for the hero, has been running into major production trouble.

70% of the crew has quit in the very first schedule and are known to have been demanding to be flown back to India due to the lack of organization, a number of heads of production fired – there is nobody to take the blame, because apparently madam producer has frequent fowl mood swings and is constantly taking short breaks to run to the bathroom or to her trailer (sniff, sniff), and appears soon after as a completely different person, but there is no real brain coordinating the production of the film. The crew that has quit has been receiving calls from the hapless director and the lead actor of the film, almost begging them to return to salvage whatever little they can from the situation.

‘Bollywood actor Aamir Khan’s ‘Dhobi Ghat’ has made it to the Longlist for the 2012 British Academy Film and Television Awards (BAFTA). The list has My Week With Marilyn and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy leading the pack. This is the result of the first round voting by members of the Academy.

Dhobi Ghat was directed by Khan’s wife Kiran Rao and stars Aamir Khan, Prateik Babbar, Monica Dogra and Kriti Malhotra. Khan plays an artist in the film that has music by Gustavo Santaolalla.

Over 6300 members of the Academy vote in three rounds to decide the Longlist, according to a press release from the organisation. Dhobi Ghat Movie Review by Sputnik

Director: Kiran Rao
Cast: Prateik, Monica Dogra, Kriti Malhotra, Aamir Khan

Dhobi Ghat (Mumbai Diaries) is the story of four people from very different backgrounds. Shai (Monica Dogra), an investment banker is on a sabbatical in Mumbai and meets Arun (Aamir Khan), a painter. They spend a night together but Arun is not interested in a relationship. Both share a common dhobi Munna (Prateik), who aspires to be an actor but moonlights as a rat killer and is a gigolo on the side. He agrees to show her the ‘real’ city in exchange for her shooting his portfolio. Arun moves into a new apartment and finds some tapes left by the previous tenant Yasmin (Kriti Malhotra) and is enamored with her.

Some of the scenes stand out like the scene where Munna is resisting his temptations to hold Shai’s hand or kiss her or the scene where Arun is filling rainwater in his wine glass while Munna is trying to stop the rainwater seeping through his roof or the scene where Arun finds out what happened to Yasmin (though one can see it coming) or the scene where Munna runs in traffic.

It is funny that Shai who is so affluent and who has a maid cannot afford a washing machine and uses a dhobi.
