Movie Memories – Theaters Where You Saw lot of Movies

maheshwari

Maheshwari/Parameshwari was the the best theater in Hyderabad. Have memories of watching a majority of movies there. Saw Ajooba, Sanam Bewafa, Saajan, Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin, Pyar Ka Tarana, Khuda Gawah, Suryavanshi, Khal Nayak, Darr, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, Anjaam, Prem, 1942 A Love Story, Yeh Dillagi, Raja, Suraksha, Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Rangeela, Deewar, Shakti, Zamana Deewana, Judwaa, Auzaar and Dil Se.

The early part of the song is shot at Maheshwari/Parameshwari theater complex. You can see that Saajan is playing. It is from a Ram Gopal Varma directed Telugu movie Money starring Chakravarthy, Renuka Shahane and Paresh Rawal. Its a good song too with some good music.

Salman Khan turns 47: How the loveable ‘Prem’ became ‘Dabangg’ Chulbul Pandey

New Delhi: Some call him ‘enfant terrible’, ‘box-office juggernaut’ and ‘Rajinikanth of Bollywood’, while others deploy epithets like ‘munificent’, ‘unpretentious’ and ‘destiny’s child’ to describe him. Salman Khan is one of the most successful actors, and compelling characters, Bollywood has ever seen. The fact that he is ruling the roost from the last 24 years is a trenchant testament of his longevity, colossal stardom and unswerving popularity.

In the current scenario, he’s hailed as a man with the Midas touch. All of his last five movies – Dabangg, Ready, Bodyguard, Ek Tha Tiger and Dabanng 2 – have been monumental blockbusters raking in moolah in spades. He has delivered the biggest hits of last three years – Dabangg (145 crore, 2010), Bodyguard (150 crore, 2011) and Ek Tha Tiger (199.3 crore, 2012) – and this unprecedented success has propelled him in a league of his own where is way ahead of his contemporaries. He’s competing with himself at the box-office, defying all the tenets of cinema and shaterring his own records.

More than the phenomenal success of his movies, it’s his maddening fame among all quarters of the audience which is astonishing. His name evokes untramelled euphoria and mass hysteria. People go berserk to catch a glimpse of his and flock to theatres just to watch their ‘Bhai’ pulling off stunning action sequences, pummeling baddies with uninhibited belligerence, mouthing zany one-liners with charismatic ease, and romancing the heroine with sprightly nonchalance.

Lessons from Ek Tha Tiger even if you aren’t a Salman fan

I haven’t seen a Salman Khan movie in a cinema hall in more than 17 years now. The last time was when I sawHum Aapke Hain Kaun for the 12th and the last time, at Sujata cinema in Ranchi, some time in February 1995. The movie was running in its record 27th week. And as many of you would agree, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun was more of a Madhuri Dixit movie than a Salman Khan one.

Those were days when movies ran for prolonged periods and the 3,200-print release that Salman Khan’s most recent release Ek Tha Tiger had was unheard of. Money was made over a period of time and not in the first three-four days of release.

Given that, if the people did not like the movie over the first three four days of its release the chances of the movie doing well were rather low. Unlike these days, when the marketing blitzkrieg that accompanies a big release is so huge that most people are tempted to watch the movie over the first weekend of its release, and before they realise that they have ended up watching a lousy movie, the producer has made his money.

What nobody really tells you is how much money all these superhit movies make on the “fifth” day after their release.

“It all depends on Salmanbhai’s health”, Sooraj Barjatya Interview

Salman Khan

Welcome back. You’re finally directing another film?
Yes, I am in the process of completing the script and hopefully I will start soon.

When exactly do you hope to start your new film?
It all depends on Salmanbhai’s dates and health. Right now my primary concern is his condition. We all want him to recover fully. Phir movies to banti hi rahegi. For now the priority for all of us who care for Salmanbhai is his health. I will meet him once he’s back from Bangkok. I am working on a script that will hopefully bring out the best in him.

Do tell me a bit about the film.
My script is almost ready. It’s a family film again. With lots of characters. And each character has to be written carefully. It’s a time-consuming process and I don’t want to rush it.

Would it be in the tradition of Hum Aapke Hain Koun?
Ummmm…it would convey all the joys and sorrows of a joint family. It will have tears and laughter and of course celebration. But at the same time it’d be a little different from the family films I’ve made in the past. The definition of family values has changed in recent years.

Milind’s Reflection: Rendezvous with Salman Khan!!

It was somewhere around 1995. Strange times were they, or to say great times when I reflect back. Marriages happened in such a fashion ambiance that when you watch the VHS cassettes of those marriages, you feel so weird, good and embarrassing at the same time! There were no Bitto Boss kinds of video-graphers but the market for videography was seeing an upsurge where a team of two would be handling the wires trying to save them from the foot-falls of people!

A song always captured my imagination in marriages. That song went like this– “Jije Ki saaliyon ,O hare duppatte waaliyon!” Infact whenever I would be waiting for my luck in the buffet system, this song if played somehow captured me. The tune was infectious maybe! Till that time I hadn’t watched much films..all that I had seen were some 22 men fighting it out on field in boring white shirts on the national channel. This time I was determined to actually find out the genesis of this song. I came back home, asked my cousin brother–”ye gaana kis film ka hai” and he[lived in kolkata] laughed at me, scorning that I didn’t know the film. How could it be? I felt as I did not know what is the national animal of India.
