A Shirtless Hunk’s Fear of Flying Low – Rajeev Masand’s Gossip Column

It was a poignant moment at a Bollywood awards ceremony in Vancouver last week when Priyanka Chopra dedicated her Best Actress award to her father and requested that he accept the trophy with her.

Oozing confidence about his performance as Mumbai gangster Manya Surve in director Sanjay Gupta’s Shootout At Wadala, John Abraham insists that the film will force the audience to see him in a new light. The actor has revealed he’s shirtless only in one scene of the film and “the focus is purely on the acting”.

Not allergic to appearing in multi-starrer films (his biggest box-office hits, Houseful 2 and Race 2, were both ensemble projects), John has reportedly signed on to feature in another star-heavy sequel—Anees Bazmee’s Welcome 2. Which is why it makes no sense that he’d turn down Farah Khan’s Happy New Year with Shah Rukh Khan and Abhishek Bachchan.

“Farah and Shah Rukh saw me in a particular part, but I couldn’t see myself in that role,” John told me last week. “I’m grateful and touched that they thought of me, but I didn’t think I suited the role at all,” he added. The film is believed to be a musical comedy about a group of friends with two left feet who participate in a championship for the worst dancers ever. Farah is apparently still in the process of casting three male parts as well as the female lead.

Mission Dhoom – Rajeev Masand’s Gossip Column

Bhansali reportedly started negotiations with Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone before the Guzaarish director finally leaned in Deepika’s favour.

When Katrina Kaif leaves for Chicago to shoot for Dhoom 3 next week, she’ll join Uday Chopra, Aamir Khan and Abhishek Bachchan, who would have kicked off the new schedule by the time she gets there after completing an exhaustive promotional tour for Ek Tha Tiger with Salman Khan.

Sources reveal that Dhoom 3 writer-director Vijay Krishna Acharya (or Viktor as he’s fondly addressed in Bollywood) filmed the climax of his highly anticipated thriller with the principal cast during the first schedule that he completed recently at YRF Studio in Mumbai. From what we hear, the producers want to keep the climax such a closely guarded secret that only a bare-bones crew was permitted on the set.

Apparently, the assistants working on the film were kept in the dark till the very end and never given a complete copy of the script; missing were the crucial pages containing the twist ending. Even actors are believed to have signed non-disclosure agreements that legally restrict them from revealing details about the script to anyone.

Furthermore, there is some talk that the climax was shot using high-end digital cameras, and not the typical film cameras that require footage to be sent to a laboratory for a digital transfer before it can be edited on an Avid.

Filmfare: Top 80 Iconic Performances (old article 2010)

80-Amitabh Bachchan in Black

Like Midas, everything Bachchan does turns to gold. So how do you better that? How do you pit your wits against a child actor without intimidating her? How do you convey the helplessness of a teacher who has to educate a child who not only is blind but deaf and dumb as well? To top it, how do you convey the helplessness of an Alzheimer´s patient? Bachchan takes on the responsibility full on and turns his most difficult role to date into his most memorable one. You see him going wild with frustration and ga ga as well at the slightest progress made by his pupil. His mood swings are so real you cringe, his joy so infectious you cry tears of happiness. Towards the end, you reach across to him in spirit in an effort to make him free from Alzheimer´s. You want him to be whole and not die wasted.”

79-Aamir Khan in Rangeela

This is chatpata paani puri, spicy vada paav and everything else that´s unabashedly mumbaiyya. Aamir Khan´s tapori act as the lovable brash Munna in Rangeela is memorable for its instinctive comic touch and spontaniety. “ Pankha chalana,´´ he tells an unsuspecting waiter.

Tanqeed’s – Morning Breakfast News Hour by FS

Saif confirms rom-com with Natalie Portman

saif natalie Morning Breakfast News on NG from around the Bollywood Globe

The Oscar winnning actress of Black Swan fame will be in his next production. But the actor refuses to divulge any more

As Agent Vinod,s he got to zip around the world in sharp suits and sharper shoes. The box office response notwithstanding, it seems to have whetted his appetite for globetrotting adventure.

During a telephonic exchange with this newspaper, Saif Ali Khan let it slip that he will be seen with Academy award winner Natalie Portman in his next, a romance. The actor messaged, “A love story we are working on… It’s a secret…We are doing a film with Natalie Portman.”

As far as formulas go, Saif, in an earlier interview to this newspaper had admitted that he was happy with the response to Cocktail, and would not mind replicating it. Perhaps which is why he has decided to stick to what he does best – romance.

And trying to rope in an actress who won the Oscar for her performance in Black Swan last year may just prove beneficial. However, when we prodded, he chose to remain mum about details of his project. In fact, he did not even divulge whether the film will be a Hollywood production or made under his home banner.

The pressure of Dhoom 3 is on Aamir Khan: Uday Chopra

Actor Uday Chopra feels by having co-star Aamir Khan on board for the third installment of Dhoom series, the brand has got bigger and that the pressure of the film lies on him.

“I think it is great..now the pressure is on Aamir Khan. With Aamir, whatever he touches turns to gold and with him in a brand like Dhoom, it makes it bigger than anything else. We are all excited,” Uday told reporters here last evening.

After the success of Dhoom (2004) and Dhoom 2 (2006) there is already a lot of talk about the third. In Dhoom 3, Aamir will be seen as a baddie and has been cast opposite Katrina Kaif.

Uday is amazed with the response the ‘Dhoom’ series has garnered over the period of time.

“We did not expect it to be this popular. We knew people liked comedy and action but children really loved the film a lot. When we started ‘Dhoom’, none of us, Abhishek, John or me were big stars, I think the action was the star of the film and that is why it has done so well,” he said.

‘Dhoom’ series revolves around daring theft plans, handsome thieves and bike chases.
