This is how its done: My Favorite Song of the Year so far.

Of lately I have had a grudge towards the current era Indian song makers. Either the lyrics are cliched with the same old Maula rants and Labon pe Nami bullshit or Fevicol se Chipkana Non-sense. I am not trying to mix the two here by citing examples of deep emotional songs to the contrasting fun songs..but just trying to say how cliched both of them, these days are.

Similarly, the music directors seem to have lost the ease of fitting the lyrics in a tune and often it seems hurried or forced…Example: Saans se teri saans nikli toh–however dreadful the lyrics were, Rahman did a very mediocre job at the music too. Same with tonnes of Indian rock bands that come up with desperately dark sad music and cliched lyrics. Here’s one more example: the title track of Kurbaan–Kurbaan Hua–I find it highly repelling and a zabardasti ka song…..anyways I didn’t want to make it a hate post towards the songs I don’t like but actually in appreciation of the song that I did.

This song I believe has got the perfect amalgamation of lyrics and the music…Its a fun song and the sheer blend of the words and the tune make it extremely likable..

Indian girl in UK stuns the world with IQ

Experts believe she has intelligence higher than Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking

New Delhi: A 13-year-old Indian girl astonished the world after she scored an incredible 162 on a Mensa IQ test in the UK.

The highest score possible for someone under 18 years of age, this led a spokesperson for British Mensa to say, “This puts her within the top 1 per cent of brightest people in the country.”

Experts believe that the achievement means Neha Ramu is in the same league of outstanding minds such as scientist Albert Einstein and physicist Stephen Hawking.

Ramu is now part of the elite group called the Mensa society, an exclusive club for people with high IQs. The IQ test is designed to evaluate a range of abilities to determine the intelligence level of the student.

IQ Girl

A seventh grade student in London, Ramu’s Mensa score was the latest in a series of high achieving performances. Crediting her doctor parents, she says: “They find amazing opportunities for me, which allow me to stretch myself and take my knowledge further without stressing myself out.”

For instance, in 2010, Ramu became an online member of Johns Hopkins’ Centre for Talented Youth (CTY), Baltimore.

17-18 year-olds and came out with a high score of 740/800.

Official Synopsis:
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is the story of the relationship between two characters, Bunny (Ranbir Kapoor) & Naina (Deepika Padukone), at two separate but defining times in their lives… first, when they are just out of college and standing on the crossroads of multiple decisions that will shape who and what they become… and then later on, in their late-twenties when they meet again, holding on to certain fulfilled and certain unfulfilled dreams, at a crossroads of another nature this time… how these two characters affect, change, befriend and eventually fall in love with each other is the journey the film aspires to take us on…

The movie is heavily inspired from DDLJ and borrows from some other movies as well. While Simran goes on a trip across Europe by asking for permission from her overbearing father Naina decides to just leave for a trekking trip to Manali by writing a letter to her overbearing mother. They both meet at the railway station just like Raj and Simran do and there is a reenactment of the DDLJ train scene where Raj helps Simran board the train. My take on Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

Prologue

In India and most of the cinema outside, the audience stresses a lot of the Genre of the film. Is it a Romance..Or a comedy or an Action..or the Amalgamated features like Cop-Drama, Courtroom-Drama, Romantic Comedy, Action-thriller.. etc.
What is fascinating is that while it is very much possible that a writer, set out to write a Cop-Drama or a Rom-Com..it is equally possible that someone just a wrote story that came to his pen and it may borrow or be qualified for a genre or two.

Review:

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is all about what the title says. It tells you a story about the dreams, aspirations, energy, awkwardness, inhibitions, ignorance and a whole lot of other emotional characteristics of a person who is new to adulthood and is out there to take the world by himself/herself and may or may not be ready to come out of their parents’s shell.

The first half of the film deals with Ranbir’s ambitions, Deepika’s struggle (to deal with herself and the world), Aditya Roy Kapoor’s ignorance and Kalki’s emotions. Its fascinating to see the four gel with each other and notice (and not notice) how different they are. Its interesting how the director does manage to focus on all of them and give the characters their due.
