Hollywood/Foreign Movies that could have a remake in Bollywood

In Bollywood, movies are usually inspired/copied from Hollywood but this post is about movies that could have an official remake in Bollywood.

Prestige

The Prestige

Synopsis: Based on the highly acclaimed novel by Christopher Priest, The Prestige is set against the backdrop of Victorian London. It is the mysterious story of two magicians whose intense rivalry leads them on a life-long battle for supremacy full of obsession, deceit and jealousy with dangerous and deadly consequences.

Ever since I saw this movie I have thought they should remake this movie in Hindi with Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. It would need great writing skills to adapt this movie into the Indian context but I think it would be great if Aamir and SRK starred in a movie like this. I think the real life rivalry will add to the movie. Hugh Jackman’s role will have to be made more even with Christian Bale’s role though.

My choices. Aamir Khan in Hugh Jackman’s role. Shah Rukh Khan in Christian Bale’s role. Katrina or Deepika could play Scarlett Johansson’s role. Amitabh could play Michael Caine’s role.

This is how its done: My Favorite Song of the Year so far.

Of lately I have had a grudge towards the current era Indian song makers. Either the lyrics are cliched with the same old Maula rants and Labon pe Nami bullshit or Fevicol se Chipkana Non-sense. I am not trying to mix the two here by citing examples of deep emotional songs to the contrasting fun songs..but just trying to say how cliched both of them, these days are.

Similarly, the music directors seem to have lost the ease of fitting the lyrics in a tune and often it seems hurried or forced…Example: Saans se teri saans nikli toh–however dreadful the lyrics were, Rahman did a very mediocre job at the music too. Same with tonnes of Indian rock bands that come up with desperately dark sad music and cliched lyrics. Here’s one more example: the title track of Kurbaan–Kurbaan Hua–I find it highly repelling and a zabardasti ka song…..anyways I didn’t want to make it a hate post towards the songs I don’t like but actually in appreciation of the song that I did.

This song I believe has got the perfect amalgamation of lyrics and the music…Its a fun song and the sheer blend of the words and the tune make it extremely likable..

Highly Recommended Part 2 – Death Note Manga TV Series

death-note-frikiland-la-tierra-del-manga-y-el-anime-504387

Death Note Manga series – One of the brilliant series that I have ever come across after Prison Break. Brilliant concept, brilliant execution, brilliant dialogues and the war between good and evil or between the world’s 2 best minds.

Death Note is about a Note Book that has fallen into the human world from the Shinigami World. Whoever touches the Death note is able to see the Shinigami (monster type from the other world who used to be the actual owner of the book) and this death note happens to be real. Whose ever names written on the book shall die of heart attack within 40sec. You can very well control the time and action of the death but all you need is the real name and face of the person whose name will be written on the death note so that others are not affected from its results if the name turns out alias.

A Note on Commando

Following is not essentially a review but more of what I feel about action movies with Commando being the case in point.

Speaking strictly from a business perspective, wouldn’t it make more sense if there were more movies that catered to the vast male population who are hungry of some quality action cinema?

The Box office verdict of a movie like Commando does not contradict or negate my aforementioned question. Commando is just a first in the line (hopefully) of some others to follow. A small budget action movie centered on a hugely talented Vidyut Jamwal and his breathtaking stunts, Commando serves exactly what has been missing from the Hindi movie Action scene.

Have you ever wondered why Die Hard is such a celebrated and loved movie all around the world? So much so, that when every other year, a new Die Hard movie comes to screen, people do think about giving the first one a watch again-just because of the sheer mention of the title!! It’s because, Die Hard shows what most action lovers want to see in a movie- “Believable Action” In the fight of one vs. many, you can’t win based on your muscles or your heavenly presence; you can only win because of your skills and your intelligence.

The Other Side Of Amitabh Bachchan

Well I don’t know how many of you are aware of these facts or let me say the Other side of Amitabh Bachchan.

zanjeer

Amitabh Bachchan had given 12 consecutive flops before Zanjeer.

Sunil Dutt signed him for a mute’s role in Reshma Aur Shera because of a letter of introduction from then PM Indira Gandhi to friend Nargis.

Kalyanji-Anandji helped him in his struggling days and even introduced him to Prakash Mehra

Comedian Mehmood was also a mentor to Mr Bachchan in his days of struggle and offered him place to stay in his own home.

Kader Khan - Former Mentor and dialogue writer of many films starring AmitabhWr1a5FZk5hE

Bachchan lashes out at Amitabh Bachchan in an interview. “Kader Khan told that Amitabh Bachchan discouraged him to join politics, while he himself became M.P. He said that Amitabh told me, ‘if people will approach you for politics, then I would tell them that you are not the right person, I would discourage them to vote for you, I will ensure that you don’t win’. Kader Khan, who wrote dialogues for Amitabh’s hit films like Satte Pe Satta, Naseeb, Muqadder Ka Sikander, says that Amitabh was ruined by politics. Kader Khan further added ‘My relationship with Amitabh got ruined after he became MP.

JTW’s most awaited films for the year 2013

I know I’m a bit late to give this post, but better late than never I suppose. So here’s my list of the most awaited films of 2013 (or those which are expected to be released in 2013; knowing big-budget films and the competition, date changes are not all that impossible these days). 2013 was supposed to be the year of the blockbuster, though the start has been lacklustre. Here’s hoping to a turn-around later on!

Films are listed in the order of their release date. Please do comment in the comments section and tell me your thoughts about this post, and about your own awaited films of this year.

ZANJEER (May 10)

The remake to the 1973 film of the same name, Zanjeer has been on my radar for some time. It has a pretty good (albeit slightly outdated) plot, which should hopefully be well-upgraded. The presence of big-name Priyanka Chopra should help. The film promises semi-classy entertainment; my only gripe is whether the makers will opt for the full-on masala route, which has witnessed a major disaster in Himmatwala recently. The production problems, however, are worrying, and its almost certain that the film won’t meet the given release; promotions have barely started, and one month is insufficient for this kind of film.

My Issues with Ranbir Kapoor

This is the first in my series of “MY Issues with XYZ star”. I will be highlighting my issues with each star/actor in this series. So it goes without saying that it will have 90% negative opinion ;)

So fans of each star beware!

1) He is a legacy star (son of a big star) and just like them, is immune to flops. For such stars, the hits take you up while the flops don’t take you down. Something that Abhishek Bachchan too enjoyed for years. He proved that even legacy stardom has a maturity date :D

2) Barring rocket singh, he has almost acted in the same way in all films. From Saawariya to YJHD,he seems to be playing the same character in different films. in his acclaimed(?) film Barfi he was APKGK in mute. Also somehow all his films are “prestige” films. if not YJHD then Besharam!

3) He has no solo blockbuster. he has been in the industry for more than half a decade and has barely two clean hits – APKGK and Barfi both of which are mostly plex hits. on what basis is he being hailed as the biggest young upcoming star?In the same period, Imran Khan has 3 clean hits.

Scenes that made you Cry

I am not a very emotional person usually. and most films fail to get that emotion from me.Mostly the supposed emotional scenes (especially in hindi films) usually make me laugh :D

. however there are moments in my movie watching experience where i have gotten overwhelmed with emotion. When i say scenes that make you “cry”, it doesnt mean literally ,it means scenes that have you emotional or lump in throat or a scene that moves you deeply. Also it is not necessary that only a death or a tragic scene can make one emotional. Let me tell you i get emotional even watching some fight scenes! :D

or say the training scene of rocky in rocky 3.because i get overwhelmed by the impact of the scene.
Here i present my top fav scenes that make me emotional each time i see them:

Brooks Was Here – The Shawshank Redemption
Mostly in films, they show a guy spends his time in jail and comes back and is back to normal life.Good enough in fairy tales. But here you get to see the real deal. there is a dialogue in the film “when they gave you life imprisonment, thats what they do,they take away your life without actually killing you.” this scene i am sure moves anyone that has seen it.

The other narrative…

To be a SRK fan is to be mocked by cynics, by new age film lovers, by psuedo intellectuals .. etc etc etc … Its always been like that.

Rediff poll voted him the worst actor  of 2001 (the year of Devdas), the most hated actor of 2006. It used to be absolutely normal to see seething sadistic comments on every rediff page. Forget the trolls, my friends from the IT crowd, too influenced by Hollywood- impassive but brilliant way of story telling, they will look at you as ‘what is wrong with you?’ the minute you confess being an SRK fan.

To be Shahrukh fan is to pretend not to care, when someone calls an intense performance of his an act of superlative hamming and yet continue being a fan… Some people stop doing it. They grow up and move to someone who doesn’t do a cringeworthy OTT scene — Some people are too enamoured by his charm — off screen and on screen… But then they too will admit of him being arrogant…It has always been like this.

What is happening right now is that, the media has picked up the already existing anti-SRKism … The people who see beyond the obvious charm and goodness because they are too skeptical, impassive and judgmental to believe it.

Why these filmmakers met Steven Spielberg

A couple of days ago Steven Spielberg was in India and apparently 61 filmmakers attended his masterclass. Now I don’t know all 61 one of them but here’s my idea why some of them were there.

Abhishek Kapoor – He wanted to make yet another movie on friendship and wanted to cast Dino-the Jurrasic Park Dinosaurus , Abraham the Lincoln and one of the many aliens in many of steve’s masterpieces. Allah ke naam pe ek alien de de re baba.

Anurag Kashyap – He wanted Spielberg to learn to speak French and read hindi and see Gangs of Wasseypur’s French DVD (with hindi subtitles) and then tweet about it, so that he can retweet it.

AR Murgadoss- He wanted to tell Spielberg that he should learn from Christopher Nolan to make impossible to understand movies like Memento so that the desi junta can’t get a thing of it and he can remake it with 4 songs and south indian action.

Ashutosh Gowarikar- He went there to advice Spielberg to not edit his movies that much. If it goes over 3 hours- Its okay.

Ayaan Mukherjee- Who is he?

R.Balki - He wanted to cast Spielberg as the next little thing in his movie about diminishing returns.

I Like the VERSATILITY of SRK and Hrithik

SRK with Hrithik Roshan

Shah Rukh Khan has been in the industry for more than 20 years now and he has been giving HITs throughout his career. Most of his Hits is in Romantic genre and So media has tagged him the ‘King of Romance’. This has made many people believe that he is just keep on doing romantic movies which is far from truth. I am covering basically two points i.e. Versatility in choosing the type of movies and Versatility in acting. I am assuming that we know the meaning of versatility so that when I mention about the movies like Ra.One, Ashoka and Paheli you will not have any chance to say that they were Flops.

Versatility in choosing movies
I feel, among the present lot, SRK is the most versatile actor when it comes to choosing movies in different genres. He has done the role of a romantic hero who lures his heroines by his charm to a wicked man who can do anything for revenge of his father’s death. A mentally challenged man to a Superhero. Just look at his filmography and you can see the Diversity. Short film with Arundhati, KHKN, DDLJ, Baazigar, Dil se, PBDHH, Pardes, Hey Raam, Ashoka, Swades, Koyla, Baadshah, MNIK, OSO, CDI, Don, Ra.one.
