I have no idea why this woman is so popular. She just doesn’t have enough applause worthy performances. For me she’s just one other average (to above average) actress.

  2. Suprabh says:

By popularity I meant, Why the hell does the french govt honors her, and cannes care about her..She has so little in her repertoire.

All her international acclaim is because of the 2-3 pedestrian movies she did abroad.

i think its bcos westerners also liked her face. they probably saw it as the ideal “indian” beauty. I had read in some paper once that in some oxford dictionary, the world “bollywood” was included and it had pic of ash. They associated her face with India.

I don’t think she is popular or even known among western audiences. She is there in Cannes because of L’Oréal not because of her movies.

Frieda Pinto is more popular or well known among western audiences because of Slumdog Millionaire. She is the exotic Indian face not Aishwarya.

Aishwarya is “world famous in India” and her PR feeds these silly stories that she is known around the world and all that nonsense. Its similar to the nonsense that “SRK is a bigger star than Tom Cruise” that his PR feeds to the media.

I must add that I can’t stand her personality. I find her so fake and so annoying.

  3. Bored says:

She is like a face of India in global entertainment platform – she capitalized on her Miss World title like no one else could.
As for her acting – dont think anyone cares. She found her footing as an actress finally in Guzaarish – but then retired the next day! LOL
