Ek Villian had a very good opening of around 55-60%. The film opened very all over though East Punjab due to Punjab 1984 and Delhi city were slower than other areas.
Delhi city had an advance which was less than Transformers – Age Of Extinction and though it managed to open on par with that film it was still lower than other places like CPCI Rajasthan and Gujarat. At some multiplexes where tickets rates are lower in the morning the film actually had full houses. In East Punjab though the Punjab cities were slow Haryana was strong.
Ek Villian even managed to open well in Kolkata which is a hard market to crack unless you are Shahrukh Khan. It could be due to the fact that the directors last film Aashiqui 2 had huge appreciation with a fantastic extended run in West Bengal.
The film has been made at a reasonable cost and as expected on this start the film is a success unless something totally goes wrong on Saturday and Sunday. The main task for the film will be does it have the appreciation to become a grosser or does it remain a success on the basis of its initial.

The business is showing an upward trend! After last week’s HUMSHAKALS that was panned by critics and yet managed to post decent collections at the box-office, this week witnessed the battle between the much-talked-about and keenly-anticipated film EK VILLAIN and the Hollywood giant TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION. Apart from these two major releases, another film that will be competing fiercely is the Punjabi biggie PUNJAB 1984.
Living up to the expectations, EK VILLAIN dominated the market place with a massive opening across all sectors. In fact, the tremendous hype that the film had generated prior to its release has resulted in an overwhelming start everywhere. TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION, which was expected to pose a tough competitor to EK VILLAIN, was, in fact, sidelined by the massive start that the Mohit Suri-directed film has fetched. Ek Villain is set to have a very good first day with collections and is challenging Jai Ho for the highest first day of the year. It is sure to be amongst top three and should beat Gunday which is at number two and even possibly challenge Jai Ho.
The film has an outside chance of beating Jai Ho first day as collections of many multiplexes are coming out better than Jai Ho but its likely that the mass centres and bigger screen count will keep it slightly below Jai Ho.
The film had a strong start in the morning and the places which were lower picked up by afternoon. Ek Villian is looking at a 15 crore nett figure on the early figures and could even go a bit higher to challenge the 16.75 crore nett of Jai Ho.

Ek Villian could not make much impact on day one as it grossed around 6.50 crore nett. The film had fair collections in UP and Rajasthan but could not do much elsewhere. Mumbai circuit was dull with collections just a little higher than Delhi/UP when normally it should be 50% higher.
The film did not perform at multiplexes as the collections were not upto the mark for its release, single screens were also below par apart from some cities in UP and Rajasthan.
The film will find it tough going over the weekend and with normal trending weekend trending it may just go a little over 20 crore nett. To have a respectable weekend figure the film needs good growth on Saturday and Sunday.

Ek Villian had an excellent first day as it recorded collections of 16-16.50 crore nett on day one. The all India collections were similar to Jai Ho with multiplexes being better and single screens less. The film is the first real opener of the year as Jai Ho was a wider release and although collections were good they could should have been better for its release.
The collections were fantastic all over with some circuits recording the highest collections for the year. Delhi/UP, East Punjab (despite competition from Punjabi film Punjab 1984) and Mysore were all better than Jai Ho and tops for the year. West Bengal may also make this list.
The opening day ensures its success and its remains to be seen how big of a lifetime number it finally puts up. The first day was always expected to be huge but it has actually come out a couple of crore more than the huge expectations which is rare.

Ek Villian had another excellent day as it collected around 15.50 crore nett on day two as per early estimates taking its total to around 32 crore nett over two days. The film is heading for a 50 crore nett weekend.
The film held up superbly at multiplexes with some even showing growth from their lofty levels on Friday. The business in North was the same as Friday while Mumbai circuit dropped a little as collections in Gujarat saw a 20% drop.
There was a drop in most circuits but with collections being at such high levels on day one this was bound to happen as films that open strong on Friday morning never repeat the same thing on Saturday morning and so it is all about catch up with the latter shows on Saturday.

Ek Villain grossed a huge 49 crore nett in its first weekend which makes it the second best opening weekend total of the year after Jai Ho which had the advantage of Republic Day holiday.
The film put up excellent numbers all over and although there was not much growth over the weekend that was more to do with the big initial it took on day one. The limited growth on Sunday because the Sunday growth is driven mainly by families and Ek Villian is not really for the family audience.

Ek Villain had a very good Monday as it collected 7.75 crore nett approx taking its total to a little under 57 crore nett. The drop from Friday was a little over 50% but that is okay as the film took a strong opening.
The film held up will at multiplexes especially in the North but mass areas did see a fall in collections with some some centres falling 60%. This could be as it is the first working day since the start of Ramadam could be that there is less appreciation in mass centres.
Despite some areas not doing so well on Monday the numbers are still huge and the film is a winner and the week should finish around 75 crore nett which is an excellent first week total.

Ek Villain had a good Monday as it collected around 6.25-6.50 crore nett but collections have had a noticeable drop from Monday. Circuits like CP Berar, Rajasthan, Nizam and Gujarat have come off quite a bit from the levels over the weekend.
The drop is 15-20% from Monday which is a bit more than normal especially as Monday was also more than 50% from Friday. The film is being driven by business in Delhi/UP and East Punjab especially the multiplexes in these two circuits.
The first week business will be around 73-74 crore nett which is still a huge number despite the weekdays not performing as well as the weekend. The film is a medium budget film and its domestic theatrical price was covered by just the three day weekend business of the film.

Ek Villain is likely to be the top film for the second week running despite seeing only decent trend on the weekdays after a fantastic initial. Both of the major new releases Bobby Jasoos and Lekar Hum Deewana Dil will find it hard to challenge Ek Villain unless there is phenomenal growth for one of the films.
Bobby Jasoos is likely to lead on day one simply because the film will have a wider reach and non star cast urban rom-coms like Lekar Hum Deewana Dil have found it very hard in the last year or so.
Still even if Bobby Jasoos comes out ahead of Lekar Hum Deewana Dil it will not mean much unless its a good number or at least decent. The film may do best in Nizam/Andhra as it is set in Hyderabad but the Nizam/Andhra belt would have fared even better if it was not released in Ramadan as that is the circuit which gets affected the most. The collections of Ek Villain from Monday in the circuit are testimony to that.
Lekar Hum Deewana Dil has been well promoted despite having new faces but the genre has been struggling so it will have to surprise with huge growth on Saturday.

Bobby Jasoos and Lekar Hum Deewana Dil started poorly with the latter having 5% collections and former at around 8-10% at multiplexes. The single screen business will be limited for both films.
Both film are looking for an upturn in the evening which sill happen from these levels but it is about how much and can they follow through on to Saturday and give the big growth required. The fate of both films depend on how well they can grow on Saturday.

Ek Villain is the second super hit film of the year of 2 States though it remains to be seen if it becomes the biggest hit of the year till date by crossing the business of 2 States. The top grosser of the first half will remain Holiday – A Soldier Is Never Off Duty as Ek Villain will not go towards the 110 crore nett mark.
The film collected around 3.50 crore nett on its second Friday which is a fairly big drop of 75% from day one. The film benefited from two weak releases otherwise the drop could have been more.
The film should have solid growth on Saturday and Sunday but is unlikely to challenge the second week figures of films like Holiday – A Soldier Is Never Off Duty and 2 States. The second week business of Jai Ho may also be out of reach for Ek Villain. The lifetime business of the film may hit 100 crore nett but that remains to be seen.

Bobby Jasoos had a poor opening and picked up slightly in the evening to have an opening day around the 1.75 crore nett mark as per early estimates. Lekar Hum Deewana Dil is a poor fare with very low collections all over. The first day collections may not even touch 50 lakhs nett which is very poor as the film had a fair amount spent on promotion but the audience did not just come. .

Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania had a good opening with collections in the 45-50% range at multiplexes. The film has seen one of the better openings of the year till date. Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania grossed 9 crore nett approx on day one which was good especially as some places were affected by Ramadan and other places by torrential rain.

Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania showed solid growth of 25% plus on Saturday as it collected around 11.25-11.50 crore nett taking its two day total to around 20.25 crore nett. The growth was extraordinary in the North as both Delhi/UP and East Punjab were 35-40% higher than on Friday.
Some of the circuits which did not do well on Friday were also up like CP Berar and CI. Rajasthan showed growth in the 20-25% region which is excellent for that circuit. The problem for the film is Mumbai circuit, more so the Mumbai/Thane area which is probably been hit by the heavy rains. Gujarat and Maharashtra never tend to do do that well for these type of films but Mumbai city should be much better and its the weather that is probably keeping it down.
The film has costs under 35 crore and with this sort of growth on Saturday it looks set for a good run especially in North so could emerge a Super Hit film.

Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania had a good first weekend as it grossed 33.50 crore nett approx in its first weekend. North India was excellent as Delhi/UP grossed nearly 8 crore nett and East Punjab was a huge 4 crore nett. The business of the film in four days is around 39 crore nett and it should gross around 50 crore nett in its first week.
North India and Rajasthan look likely to sustain best in the long run. There is no major competition this week so it should do well in its second week but the third week will see very little collections due to the release of Kick.
The film has not done too well in South and East India with even a multiplex circuit like Mysore not upto the mark but as contributions are not big from these areas it does not matter for a medium budget film like Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania.

Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania will dominate the box office again this week and with kick releasing next Friday the Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt starrer will need a good second week if it is to get near the 75 crore nett mark .
Hate Story is the probably the best of the new releases in terms of initial but the film is mainly for single screens and business in in most circuits is down in single screens due to Ramadan. It is not the best time in the year to release a single screen film and will basically act as a one week filler at single screens before Kick.

Hate Story 2 had a good first day with collections likely to come in the 4.50-4.75 crore nett range. The film had morning collections which suggested a 3 crore nett opening day but multiplexes managed to pick up after the morning shows.
The single screens had started off better but many places could have even better if it was not for Ramadan. East Punjab was best as it grossed a huge 77 lakhs nett and there is very little Ramadan affect in this circuit. Delhi/UP was around 1 crore nett while Rajasthan was 30 lakhs nett approx.
The film may drop on day two as single screens where the bulk of the business is coming from will drop but the film is on course to be a winner as the multiplexes have performed very well for this type of film.
