Aamir Khan's Hypocrisy about AIB's Roast

By now most people may have already heard or read that Aamir Khan has criticized AIB’s roast involving Arjun Kapoor, Karan Johar and Ranveer Singh. Here is the full video.

He starts off by saying that he has not seen the roast. But then says he has heard about it and seen 2-3 clips and goes on to criticize pretty much everything about the show 🙂 Now this is the same Aamir Khan who produced Delhi Belly which had a lot of Gaalis or abuses. Back then he was promoting the movie all over the place saying its an adult film intended for adults and that’s why it’s ok to have Gaalis. Now even the AIB Knockout Roast was a show for adults and it was on youtube where one can either to choose to watch it or not. Karan Johar made it clear at the start of the show itself that “Some foul and horrific language will be used. If you are easily offended or even really difficultly offended then you should leave right now”.

Aamir bizarrely calls the comedy show a violent event. This is what he said. “I felt it was a very violent event. There was lot of violence in that event. Dekhiye violence sirf physical nahi hota ke main aapko 2 joote maarun, violence verbal bhi hota hai, violence emotional bhi hota hai. Jab aap kisi ko insult karte ho, toh aap violence perpetuate kar rahe ho. Aap ek bahut violent cheez kar rahe ho aur aap duniya ko dikha rahe ho ke dekho main kitna violent hun. Toh mujhe wo cheezen pasand nahi hain ke main aapko violence dikhaun chaahe wo physical ho aur usko main aapko bataun ke wo kitne kamaal ka hai, I don’t like it.”

Now this is the same Aamir Khan who had starred in the violent movie Ghajini. He had no issues showing all the physical violence in Ghajini but apparently verbal “insults” are “very violent” and should not be shown. He was perfectly fine with all the verbal insults and abuses in Delhi Belly and had not called them “violent” back then.

And Aamir apparently did not find this Chatur’s Speech from his movie 3 Idiots “violent” with jokes on rape aka “Balatkar”.

He goes on to say “Kisi ke rang pe comment karna, kisi ke sexuality pe comment karna aur usko joke banana aur main aapke saath hasun, mujhe toh hasi nahi aarahi bhai isme.”

According to Aamir its wrong to comment on somebody’s color or sexuality and joke about it. Fine. But what about making fun of somebody’s accent which his character did in 3 Idiots? What about making fun of somebody’s flatulence? Chatur’s flatulence was made fun of throughout the whole movie. One can’t be selective about who/what one can be made fun of and who/what cannot be made fun of. If its wrong to make fun of someone’s color or sexuality then its not ok to make fun of someone’s height/weight and so on. Any one who laughs at Sardar jokes or Blonde jokes should not complain about jokes on color/sexuality.

“Aur 25 gaaliyan deke aap soch rahe ho ke main impress hojaunga, gaaliyon se impress hone ki umar meri nikal chuki hai ke main 14 saal ka nahi hun ke main gaali sunke hasunga ha ha ha gaali di usne. I am not impressed by a bad language.”

May be he should have used this advice for Delhi Belly because it wasn’t even half as funny as AIB’s roast despite using all those Gaalis. Now if Aamir says that he is “not impressed by bad language” and if he thinks only 14 year olds laugh at “gaalis” then why did he need “gaalis” in Delhi Belly, a comedy for Adults?

“Aap agar mujhe hasana chahte ho toh aap bagayr kisi ko chot pahuchaye aap mujhe hasake dekho toh mujhe mazaa aayega usme.”

Some people were hurt with the Lord Shiva scene from his last movie PK but he was defending the scene and the movie back then using the rising box office collections. Wasn’t that scene also there for cheap laughs? He should have had Raju Hirani delete that scene and every other scene that anyone complained of hurting their sentiments. Why did he not do that?

He says with Delhi Belly they had applied for a Adults certificate so its ok. But then AIB was also for Adults and was on you tube with a warning by Karan Johar. To his credit he does say that he is against banning and that lynching AIB is wrong.

Here is the ad of Delhi Belly where even Aamir abuses which is beeped out.

Here is the video of Aamir telling “Don’t Watch Delhi Belly, If You Can’t Stand Abuses”.

Its completely fine if Delhi Belly or AIB Roast have Gaalis or abuses as both are intended for adults and one can watch them only if they want to. But what about the Bhaag DK Bose song which was played everywhere from TV channels/Radio to malls/shops and street corners at all times without being beeped? When some interviewer asked about the abuse “Bose DK” in the song Aamir termed it as a “technical issue”.

Now coming to AIB which did the actual roast they did not have the balls to stand up for their stand up comedy or roast. They shamelessly and spinelessly removed the video from you tube and then apologized to the Archdiocese of Bombay. If AIB did not believe that what they were doing was right then they should have not have done that in the first place.

The late George Carlin who is arguably the greatest stand up comic ever was arrested for his routine of “Seven Words You Can’t Say on Television” back in the 70s but unlike AIB he did not apologize. Instead he did the same routine again as can be seen here. That’s how you stand up for something you believe in.

what was the need to make a separate post on this?

in delhi belly, no real person has been abused or mocked. its a fictional film with fictional characters. while in AIB real ppl are being abused and mocked, many of whom are not present there. i think that is aamirs main point. anyway i didnt agree completely with his views. i wont call the show “violent”. i am not a pansy like aamir. but surely what he said about its humour(appealing to 14 year old) i can definitely relate to that

“in delhi belly, no real person has been abused or mocked. its a fictional film with fictional characters.”

The use of abuses in Delhi Belly was defended saying that this is how younger generation and these characters speak in real life. Delhi Belly had gaalis precisely because the real persons on whom Delhi Belly was modeled on spoke gaalis.

“while in AIB real ppl are being abused and mocked, many of whom are not present there.”

Most of the people who were being abused and mocked were present there. I don’t remember the celebs who were not present but who were abused. As far as mocking celebs who were not present it happens all the time.

“i think that is aamirs main point. anyway i didnt agree completely with his views. i wont call the show “violent”. i am not a pansy like aamir. in delhi belly, no real person has been abused or mocked. its a fictional film with fictional characters. but surely what he said about its humour(appealing to 14 year old) i can definitely relate to that”

Aamir isn’t a pansy. He is a hypocrite. His problem is not with the gaalis or else he would not have made Delhi Belly. His problem is not with humor appealing to 14 year olds otherwise he would not have all the fart jokes in 3 Idiots. He is just pissed off because someone else got some fame/limelight for doing something innovative which he thinks is his copyright/patent.

” I don’t remember the celebs who were not present but who were abused. ”

you need to see the video again.farida jalal has openyl said how disgusted she was with the video. there were sexual jokes on parineeti and many others and it was assumed that all of them wil take it in good spirit. but they did not

“His problem is not with humor appealing to 14 year olds ”

he has clearly said in the video that one of his main problems was that. pk didnt have any abusive jokes

Yes I read that Farida Jalal did not like it. She said “But if they said what you are telling me then it’s quite embarrassing and no they didn’t take my consent.” So may be they should have taken her consent for that joke or cracked that joke at one of those present there.

“there were sexual jokes on parineeti and many others and it was assumed that all of them wil take it in good spirit.”

Parineeti Chopra did not have a issue with it. In fact this is what she said on FB.

“Nobody is forcing you to watch the Roast! You choose! Why oppose it completely? Take it easy guys!! ‪#‎AIB‬”

          https://www.facebook.com/ParineetiChopraOfficial/posts/434579016699584

“he has clearly said in the video that one of his main problems was that.”

I meant 3 Idiots not PK which had humor appealing to 14 year olds with all the fart jokes. He is a hypocrite because he himself used gaalis in the ad for his movie which had gaalis and had a song with a gaali which was played everywhere at all times without even being beeped.

  8. AAP 9 years ago

Yes, Aamir is a hypocrite in this matter without seeing the show.

I agree with George Carlin point here in the post. I am a bigger fan of Carlin than Aamir in these matters.

I did not like the show – not because it was abusive but because it was not funny and they only concentrated on abuses in an attempt to make it funny. Maybe they felt it was “liberating” of some kind but it was stupid. I would have loved it if the jokes were genuinely funny (barring 2-3 they were flat) and had some fine observations about a person being roasted – and not just over-repetitive and superficial color/sexual orientation thing going in circles.

“He is just pissed off because someone else got some fame/limelight for doing something innovative which he thinks is his copyright/patent.”

    this is over-assumption.

I am glad that you agree with me on Aamir being a hypocrite in this matter and on the George Carlin point.

“I did not like the show – not because it was abusive but because it was not funny and they only concentrated on abuses in an attempt to make it funny. Maybe they felt it was “liberating” of some kind but it was stupid. I would have loved it if the jokes were genuinely funny (barring 2-3 they were flat) and had some fine observations about a person being roasted – and not just over-repetitive and superficial color/sexual orientation thing going in circles.”

Even I did not like all the jokes though I liked the show a lot. Some jokes fell flat and some were repetitive. That’s why I said that “They could have may be less number of people roasting but longer roasts by each so the entire roast is at least an hour long”. That way each comic would have needed more material to roast rather than 10 comics roasting on same topics for 5 minutes each. I think the roasts would have progressively become better once the shock value of gaalis subsided.

      “this is over-assumption”

Well it may be an over assumption. But I could not come up with a better explanation than that. From someone who championed a movie with gaalis as intended for Adult audiences this whole interview (saying that gaalis are for 14 year olds and that it is violent) came across as very childish.

      • AAP 9 years ago

He could have said he was offended and stopped at that (still hypocrite) but saying it was “violent” was exaggeration and OTT,childish on part of Aamir.

While Carlin was right and Aamir is hypocrite,

“unlike AIB he did not apologize. Instead he did the same routine again as can be seen here”

AIB probably wont do it again because the social fabric in US and India is totally different. They have much fractured family system there and the same language may not go down well with Indian public. Besides that the Church was a total failure back then with hippie generation of 70s/80s totally rejecting religious banal values. Youth in India now who are supporting AIB on social media – themselves too are very much regressive in many matters such as marriage, religion, dowry, caste, superstitions in the veil of traditions etc. They are supporting it just as a break to feel liberated and feel good and modern about themselves.

AIB removed this video itself and have apologized. So I don’t think they are going to do it again.

“AIB probably wont do it again because the social fabric in US and India is totally different. They have much fractured family system there and the same language may not go down well with Indian public.”

The US has lot of conservatives as well who are very religious. Cuss words are beeped on the main channels. I used to watch a lot of stand up comedy on Comedy Central and I think they used to beep cuss words too. HBO on the other hand does not beep any cuss words and George Carlin specials used to come on HBO.

“Youth in India now who are supporting AIB on social media – themselves too are very much regressive in many matters such as marriage, religion, dowry, caste, superstitions in the veil of traditions etc. They are supporting it just as a break to feel liberated and feel good and modern about themselves.”

I don’t think many youth are supporting AIB. Yeah some are supporting it but I see many young people who are bashing it saying it is against our culture and that its not ok to abuse in public and that the jokes are offensive to women and so on. There are some Salman fans too who are bashing AIB because AIB made some joke on Salman’s sister which was edited out.

Many people would be offended by Delhi Belly and some would be even offended by Alok Nath’s Sanskari jokes. We are different people. So should we stop ? Our tolerances levels are different. Moreover if you celebrity you get attention and brickbats. As celebrity people should develop a thick skin. Modi is called murderer, Hitler, Feku; Kejriwal is called Naxal. Bhagoda… Now they can not shut everyone’s mouth?

Why Aamir was scolding Karan for Roast? If Aamir has right to make Delhi Belly then why Karan, Ranvir, Arjun have same right to participate in roast. You think you can make Delhi Belly in Freedom of speech but someone who makes something objectionable in different dimension in not allowed ?

He is also implying that they didn’t inform people like he did for Delhi Belly. He is wrong in implication. People who paid Rs. 4000 knew what they were getting into. On YouTube there is warning before show.

Agree. A Mumbai Court has ordereded FIR against AIB, Karan, Ranveer, Arjun and even Deepika and Alia Bhatt. So even laughing at these jokes is a crime according to this stupid court.

      ————————

AIB Roast: Mumbai Court Orders FIR Against Organisers, Karan Johar

Mumbai: A court in Mumbai has ordered an FIR or police complaint against the comedy group AIB and several Bollywood personalities including filmmaker Karan Johar for an expletive-laced “roast” of two actors that was uploaded on YouTube.

Cases will also be filed against Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor, who were the main attraction of the show filmed in Mumbai on December 20, and Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt, who attended it.

The roast, the first of its kind in India, featured a panel of eight and ‘Roastmaster’ Karan Johar ragging on Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor and subjecting them to jokes about their on-screen and off-screen lives. 4,000 people attended the show, which went viral online.

After complaints of obscenity, AIB pulled off the show earlier this month.

A local court acted on a petition by social activist Santosh Daundkar, who said a “commercial, vulgar, obscene and pornographic show” featuring several Bollywood stars, was held at a stadium meant for sports events.

The widely debated show has divided even the film fraternity, with some coming out in its support but others, like Aamir Khan, openly critical.

“I felt it was a very violent event. Violence is not only physical, it can be verbal and emotional too. When you insult someone, you perpetuate violence,” Mr Khan said. But he clarified that there must be no witch-hunt against those involved in the roast if no law had been broken.

General and the ultimate defender of freedom of speech, alongwith Dr. Venugopal, Shyam Divan, Prashant Bhushan etc are appearing for petitioners. While Tushar Mehta ASG is defending it.

      sputnik 9 years ago

And there is a landmark verdict.

Section 66 A of IT Act unconstitutional, Supreme Court rules

The Supreme Court on Tuesday struck down Section 66 A of the Information and Technology Act, which allows police to arrest people for posting “offensive content” on the internet.

The court, however, allowed the government to block websites if their content had the potential to create communal disturbance, social disorder or affect India’s relationship with other countries.

The bench said the public’s right to know is directly affected by Section 66 A and the Section clearly affects the right to freedom of speech and expression enshrined under the Constitution of India.

Further, the court said Section 66 A was unconstitutional because it failed two major tests – the clear and present danger test and the tendency to create public disorder test. The court also found the language used in the Section vague and nebulous saying it doesn’t properly define words like ‘offensive’ or even ‘persistent’.

The court said it can’t go by government assurances that the Section won’t be misused as any assurance would not bind on successive governments. Section 66 A it said, would have to be judged on its own merits.

The court said there is a difference between discussion, advocacy and incitement. Discussion & advocacy, no matter if annoying to some people, has to be allowed, it said.

A bench of justices J. Chelameswar and R.F. Nariman had on 26 February reserved its judgement on one of the most controversial issues regarding the freedom of expression that the court has had to deal with in recent times. The verdict was reserved after the government concluded its arguments contending that section 66A of the Information Technology Act cannot be declared unconstitutional merely because of the possibility of its “abuse”.

The government said it did not want to curtail the freedom of speech and expression but contended that the cyber space could not be allowed to remain unregulated. During hearing however, the court had found several issues with the wording of the law. In particular, it said that terms like ‘grossly offensive’ and ‘of menacing character’, used to classify content as illegal, were vague expressions and these words were likely to be misunderstood and abused.

The first PIL on the issue was filed in 2012 by a law student Shreya Singhal, who sought amendment in Section 66A of the Act, after two girls — Shaheen Dhada and Rinu Shrinivasan — were arrested in Palghar in Thane district as one of them posted a comment against the shutdown in Mumbai following Shiv Sena leader Bal Thackeray’s death and the other ‘liked’ it. The apex court had on 16 May 2013, come out with an advisory that a person, accused of posting objectionable comments on social networking sites, cannot be arrested without police getting permission from senior officers like the IG or the DCP.

Everyone who uses the internet should care about the IT Act case that’s being argued in the Supreme Court right now [READ PETITIONS]

A high stakes case was part-argued today by government and nine petitioners on the constitutional validity of certain sections of the Information Technology Act 2000.

A judgment by the Supreme Court on the controversial law could either provide a boost to freedom of speech activists or a fillip to government censorship of and control over content published on the internet.

The central government today told the Supreme Court that some provisions of IT Act were incorporated to act against those posting objectionable material on social media and websites.

To back its plea, the government placed before a bench of Justice J Chelameswar and Justice SA Bobde some content it deemed objectionable, which it said had prompted the incorporation of sections 66A, 69 and 80 of the Act in order to provide recourse against those publishing such content.

Submitting the material in a sealed cover, additional solicitor general Tushar Mehta said: “These are the objectionable materials which compelled us to make the provisions.”

The challenge to the validity of the IT Act provisions was raised by Shreya Singhal who had moved the apex court following the arrest of two women – Shaheen Dhada and Rinu Shrinivasan – for posting comments critical of the Mumbai bandh in the wake of the death of Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray.

Thereafter NGOs Common Cause and People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) also impleaded themselves in the matter.

PUCL is represented by arguing counsel Sanjay Parikh, and advocates Apar Gupta and Karuna Nundy.

Prashant Bhushan is appearing for Common Cause, which is challenging section 66A, section 69A and section 80 of the Act.

Senior counsel Sajan Poovayya is making arguments for Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar, who is arguing against s66A of the Act.

Reviews website Mouthshut.com is challenging section 66A and 74.

Three of the petitions linked to below
Chelamneswar asks: Is IPC inadequate to deal with objectionable content?

In the course of the hearing, Justice Chelameswar said: “We want to examine whether the IPC (Indian Penal Code) was found inadequate to deals with defamation and objectionable materials. Or is it some special kind of legislation to deal with a special kind of situation. It requires a detailed examination.”

Senior counsel Soli Sorabjee, appearing for Singhal, told the court that section 66A is unconstitutional as it violates the constitution’s article 19(1)(a) guaranteeing fundamental right of freedom of speech and expression.

He also argued that section 66A also suffers from vagueness because expressions used in it would give different meaning based on the understanding of the person invoking the provisions in his complaint.

Bhushan also said that expression used in section 66A were vague and are grossly abused by those in power and cited instances to back up his plea.

    The hearing will continue tomorrow.
    Controversial sections: 66A, 69A, 80

In her plea, Singhal had challenged the constitutional validity of section 66A that provides for proceeding against people posting annoying and inconvenient comments on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter and other electronic media.

She said that the “phraseology of the aforesaid section is so wide and vague and incapable of being judged on objective standards, that it is susceptible to wanton abuse”.

The section reads: “Any person who sends by any means of a computer resource any information that is grossly offensive or has a menacing character; or any information which he knows to be false, but for the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience, danger, obstruction, insult shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years and with fine.”

Notice on Singhal’s plea was issued to the central as well as Maharashtra, West Bengal, Puducherry and Delhi governments 30 November 2012.

The validity of section 66A has also been challenged by the self-exiled Bangla writer Taslima Nasrin.

Section 69A concerns the central government’s power to block websites.

Section 80 gives a local police inspector the power to seize materials in a criminal investigation or when an FIR is filed. Bhushan argued that before 2008, only more senior police officers were allowed to seize, but this was diluted in the 2008 amendment to the Act, which now allows every local police station to define crimes as cybercrimes and use the Act to intimidate people.

By the way I first heard of this DK Bose to refer to the abuse Bose DK first in the late 80s on a Telugu mimicry audio cassette at my grand parents house. After that whenever my Mama had to abuse anyone he would slyly use DK Bose instead of the abuse 😀

When the song Bhaag DK Bose song initially came out I may have mentioned this elsewhere but I couldn’t find any links back then. I found the links today.

Here is the clip of the mimicry show. Listen from 2:38 Its in Telugu and its supposed to be a school where the Sir is taking attendance and asks a kid’s name and he tells its Bose DK. He is shocked and asks again and the kid repeats Bose DK. Then he says “I am asking your name you idiot”. And the kid replies “My name is Bose and my surname is DK. So doesn’t that make it Bose DK?” So the Sir tells you should not say Bose DK but say DK Bose.

This whole skit including Bose DK was copied later in a Telugu comedy movie Jambalakidi Pamba which came out in 1993 and which I watched in theater 🙂 Don’t know if the original mimicry artist Gangadhar Satyanarayana was credited for that or not. Jambalakidi Pamba is a movie where some people drink some thing and they have 4 stages and in one of those stages the adults start acting like kids and vice versa. Here in this scene the adults are acting as kids and are in school. Watch from 3:09 to see the scene involving Bose DK.

I think it is the end of Bollywood as every director can be accused either of glorifying bloodshed or double meaning of any words.

I guess only Sooraj Barjatya can make movies anymore and we will have only Sanskari movies starring Alok Nath.

        • alfa.one 9 years ago

hahahahahahahahahahahaha…………!! I wish Anurag Kashyap’s career to be finished. From the time he entered into hindi film industry, started using abusive language openly which encouraged others also.

Now since censor board has come out with list of words cannot be used in films, poor aamir the hypocrite, what can he say about DK Bose/Bose DK ????? On his comment over AIB Roast, peoplle started telling him “bhaag, bhhaag, bhaaag DK Bose Bose DK…..!

AIB Roast: Russell Peters asks Aamir Khan to shut up

Stand-up comedian Russell Peters has lashed out at those who have gone against the controversial AIB roast that’s been making news of late. The 44-year-old particularly asked Aamir Khan, who has condemned the video, to “shut up” and “mind his own business”.

“Seriously, who is he, the so-called artist, to say that he found it violent and that AIB and rest involved should have been responsible? He did not even see it! Someone please ask him to shut up and take care of his own business,” says the Canadian funnyman of Indian origin.

Russell, who was scheduled to perform in the capital on Saturday night, further slammed Aamir for remarking without knowing. “He is an actor; not even a real artist. He goes in front of the camera and reads out lines that someone else has written. Then, he is giving his opinion about something that is honest!”

In fact, Russell has his doubts about how many people really got the jokes. “I don’t know if they even understand what it is. It is a roast, where you put someone stage and say the most honest things, in the most brutal, nastiest manner. And in return, they do the same to you. And it’s not the type of comedy where you go behind someone’s back and stab them. It’s honest, it’s in your face,” he says, adding that Indians are mostly confused about what they get angry about. “You know, it’s funny, the things we get angry about. We don’t get pissed when a politician comes up on stage and lies on our faces, but we get angry when someone speaks the truth.”

He adds that he met AIB comedians Tanmay Bhatt and Gursimran Khamba and congratulated them on their effort. “I met Tanmay and Khamba and patted them on their back and said they should feel proud!”

AIB Roast: Pooja Bhatt appalled at Aamir Khan’s self-righteous mode

Former actress turned filmmaker and Alia Bhatt‘s half-sister, Pooja Bhatt is miffed with Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan for his controversial statement on the AIB Roast video. Pooja Bhatt, who has worked with Aamir Khan in ‘Dil Hai Ki Maanta Nahin’, lashed out at the actor calling him ‘frightening’.
In an interview to Hindustan Times, Pooja Bhatt said: “I feel it’s hypocritical self-styled moralists and the Aamir Khans of the world, who are more frightening and injurious. I am appalled at his sudden self-righteous mode. He has completely forgotten his body of work — the double meaning song, ‘Bhaag DK Bose’ in Delhi Belly, and the ‘PK’ poster where he left nothing to the imagination, putting Sunny Leone to shame,” said Pooja.
Aamir Khan had recently called the show violent and also said that he had scolded his friends Karan Johar and Arjun Kapoor for being a part of the show.
In the latest development on the AIB row, Mumbai police had last week registered an FIR against 14 persons, including Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar, actors Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor and others who organised or participated in the AIB Knockout show held in Worli on
The FIR was filed under sections of the law pertaining to criminal conspiracy for staging an obscene show, using vulgar or pornographic words before an audience including women and for circulating obscene or pornographic content on the Internet, among others.
The FIR was ordered by Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate C S Baviskar of Girgaum Court based on a complaint by social activist Santosh Daundkar, who approached the court after the police failed to act on a written complaint.

    • AAP 9 years ago

While I agree Aamir is a hypocrite in this matter, I think Russell is wants publicity. So according to him he or theater artists are true artists and Cinema artists are half-artists. Which is ridiculous.

“Just reads out lines written by someone else” can be said about lot of cinema artists who eventually fade away but not for someone like Aamir the least.

  19. AAP 9 years ago

Russell himself borrows his humor from his idol Carlin.

In cinema there are many aspects in filmmaking. Thats why Akshay Kumar is a mere actor and likes of Aamir and Kamal Hassan are real artists.

    • Baba 9 years ago

“f Aamir and Kamal Hassan are real artists.”

what piece of art has aamir created? pk and delhi belly?

      • AAP 9 years ago

Aamir has been involved same like Kamal in many ways and capacities in filmmaking. The quality of it can be always debatable.

        • Baba 9 years ago

aamir khan makes movies which are simplstic and that masses can understand. he can never be a neeraj pandey or shoojit sircar or a shimit amin. his obsession with BO will never allow him to make a truely great film

  20. AAP 9 years ago

And when i said “its true” – i meant only abt his BO aspect.

He takes care of BO aspects when making a film. Thats not a crime.

And to compare Baby kind of film which plays out to the masses and gallery to the fullest with something which Aamir has done in last decade is ridiculous.

Baby played out to the gallery at the fullest. Talaash didnt. Now you decide which is greatest art. (I am not even counting Lagaan and RDB)

    • Baba 9 years ago

“Baby played out to the gallery at the fullest”

in what way? by having no songs and dances like aamir khan films? by having zero promotions? by not making crap communal harmony indo-pak aman ki aasha messages like pk(to cater to middle east n pak BO)? by shooting terrorists point blank without beating around the bush? by giving a film a realistic treatment whether its the acting or action?

      ” Talaash didnt.”

talaash had songs , romance, two herioes with big names and it trended badly while baby is going into its 5th fifth week of thetarical run ( a rare feat these days). it has outgrossed talaash inspite of opening half of it on day 1 and it is the highest rated film on imdb above all aamir films. baby has busted every myth that was there aroud aAMIR. lagaan is a forumula film. and i dont say it. the filmmaker gowariker himself says it. its an underdog film with the same stupid bw pattern of songs and dances and love triangle.the only film where aamir actually took some risk in mainstream is tzp but even there he had the songs and dances.

And Aamir should watch his own production Delhi Belly again. Every other dialogue has a gaali. I saw nobody tell Aamir that people should start giving those gaalis to Aamir in real life.

“Coming to this thread’s topic, I hope Aamir does not respond to these lukkas who are trying to get mileage out of all this and gain limelight.”

Aamir is the one who tried to get mileage out of it by trying to be “different” as he always wants to be by commenting against AIB and give his stupid lectures. There was no need for him to comment if he had not watched it.

      • mgt 9 years ago

Upon inquired , he could have said no comment and moved on… But due to his close proximity with kjo and arjun he did try to give his two cents.

He was commenting on their immaturity. On Delhi Belly it was a movie and one had to buy tickets. It was also very harmlessly done ( my opinion ).

If you watched that show I was amazed to see Arjun Kapoor immaturity by getting carried away with few filthy ones.

His chacha and chachi were sitting right there. Now we are not that westernized that we do maa bahen at home among family members. It was odd to see kjo’s mom, alia’s mom sitting in the first row and discussing how ( which position ) their sons and daughters are screwed.

        • Author
          sputnik 9 years ago

Even if he is close with KJo and Arjun he supposedly gave his 2 cents to them personally according to his own account. There was no need to make it public. He just wanted to get some brownie points by showing how responsible he is in some show which was about “responsibility”. But it backfired.

Even for the AIB roast people had to buy tickets. AIB Roast was also done harmlessly. No one got killed/raped/molested/looted. The show was uploaded on youtube and one can watch it only if they wanted to. It was not telecast on TV.

“His chacha and chachi were sitting right there. Now we are not that westernized that we do maa bahen at home among family members

it was odd to see kjo’s mom . alia’s mom there….”

If Aamir can give maa behen gaalis in front of his Bhaanja Imran Khan in his ad for Delhi Belly then Arjun can surely give gaalis in front of his Chacha and Chachi.

People are different. And people in India do give gaalis in public when they are angry or having a fight with someone. Its sometimes before their family members. And some people in rural India (the ones who are not westernized) also give gaalis in front of family members.

One can’t impose their moral values on others and assume that every family behaves the same way. KJo, Alia and their moms are all adults and they did not have a problem attending a show with adult jokes.

If families in India can watch movies with fart jokes, “balatkar” joke, men stripping to their underpants and presenting their ass saying “Tohfa Khubool Karo” like 3 Idiots or movies like PK with “dancing cars” or with dialogues like “Shadi vyah me pataka phod ke band baaja baja ke, kaahe sare sheher ko bataya jaat hai ki aaj I am having sex” then there is nothing odd to see kjo’s mom or alia’s mom there.

          • Baba 9 years ago

completely agreed. and why is mgt feeling for alias mom or kjos mom? unko bura laga to wo bolenge. jaise farida jalal ko bura laga to wo boli hai.

  26. mgt 9 years ago

Hope Aamir does not stretch it by giving any response to Russel Peters as that lukka has sensed blood and this his prime opportunity to gain recognition this side of the Atlantic.

Sometimes I feel a lot of celebrities need a KRK treatment to be brought down to earth.

    • mgt 9 years ago

Lot many fair points here but knowing Aamir, I want to give him the benefit of doubt and a lot of you are missing the intentions….. People are lynching at him on few selected words but not taking the whole comment in totality which is very authentic and Indian at heart.

In the name of freedom of speech we cannot do whatever we feel like and at anytime and where does all this stop…. For all the façade over freedom of speech the western societies are much more conservative and censured than we all think. Agree European are a bit more liberal but the Americans are not what they project and there are a lot of dos and don’ts when it comes to public behavior.

AIB has been there on you tube for a longer time with all sorts of abuses and language and was catering to the lowest common denominators and no one objected to it but look what KJO and gang has done to the whole concept. These are public figures and our society is still not matured and a lot of them treat them like demi god. This gives them credence to abuse like they did in AIB about inserting ten dicks in parineeti chopras vagina and how she got scared and never came to the show…….

What our folks are doing in AIB is getting excited with childish gaalis and who can give a bigger abuse. A proper review of AIB roast was done by KRK and hope his you tube link finds a way in the mainstream media.

      • Baba 9 years ago

didnt know you are such a big fan of aamir. sb pe kabhi pata hi nahi chala

        • mgt 9 years ago

I am not a fan of Aamir and did not like PK at all and found OMG a much superior product in that genre to be frank. The movie was boring and all over the place. Same with D3 which was a joke too and showed us the gap between him and Hrithik when it comes to projection on screen.

But I do like Aamir on SMJ and the time he has given to the show, whatever his motives are for doing that. The amount of research and dedication put in that show won me over and gave me a bit of perspective that everything is not money and fame and we need to give some of our time in building societies and sharing common good.

Here on AIB somehow I hated the pretentious nature of the show. Kjo is going through some serious life crisis which is making him do anything to stay relevant and that includes sucking these jholawalas like kashyap’s dick.

  27. mgt 9 years ago

A very honest review of AIB.

What are your views on Russel statement that Aamir is not a “real artist”. I think he just wanted attention. Agreed that Aamir is a hypocrite but calling all film actors a half-artist was too much. Even Naseeruddin Shah (who is from theater background and whimsical/known for his radical views) does not say that.

Don’t agree with Russell’s statement that Aamir is not a “real artist”. If Aamir is not a “real artist” because he just “reads out lines that someone else has written” then no actor (including De Niro, Al Pacino, Amitabh, Naseer and so on) can be called a “real artist” which is ridiculous.

Russell was right in calling Aamir a hypocrite and he as a stand up comedian has a right to comment in defense of stand up comedy or roast. But saying “all actors are not real artist” is too much.

“he has not praised aamir for “filmmaking” also. he praised aamir as a “producer/financer” bcos he backed films like peepli live which naseer said wouldnt be backed by other mainstream actors.”

AIB Roast: Shah Rukh Khan would not like to take sides in the controversy

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan would not like to take any sides on the controversy surrounding the AIB roast as he feels humour is a tricky thing and will always invoke different reactions from people.
When asked about the celebrity roast involving Karan Johar, Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor, the actor said he believes in humour but has also become careful with his words as an entertainer.

“I am someone who has always believed in sense of humour. Over the years my sense of humour is rounded off if not completely over. I have learnt to curtail it because there is always going to be a thin line when it comes to humour. It is always going to invoke radical reaction, either you are going to laugh at it or hate it,” Shah Rukh told PTI in an interview.

“When you are a popular actor like I am, people listen to you… So, you need to relook at it and I am only speaking about myself here. There will always be issues and questions. I can’t take any sides.”
The members of the online group had to remove the video from YouTube earlier this month after some people objected to the language and jokes used in the roast.
Shah Rukh, 49, said the power of choice is always with people.

“There is always freedom of expression and there is a choice you have to make. I always say that if you don’t like something don’t watch it. Nobody is shoving it down your throat but if you don’t like something and you have watched it then live with it. There are a lot of movies that I have watched and don’t like but I don’t have the right to go and blame the person who made them.
The beauty of today’s media is that the power of choice is in your hand, you can decide to watch or not watch something. But having said that, I think I have become very aware of the fact that I need to follow some control aspect… But I will not be able to comment on what others do, how they do or why they do.”

what aamir said is getting solidified with this new facebook content rules and there is a clear no for a lot of things. Hope the freedom of speech can now say ban facebook.

” The company is out with an updated version of its Community Standards to add more detail and clarity to its rules. Facebook says users have been asking for more information and examples of what constitutes a violation. The company notes that, in particular, the revisions deal with policies related to self-injury, dangerous organizations, bullying and harassment, criminal activity, sexual violence and exploitation, nudity, hate speech, and violence and graphic content. ”
